BEST of AMALFI COAST ITALY

In written…

Hello everyone and welcome to the beautiful Amalfi Coast. In this video, we’re going to take you to some iconic destinations, show you one of the best hikes you can do here with the most incredible views, navigate the crazy Amalfi Coast roads. Oh my god, that was the scariest bus ride we’ve ever experienced and be sharing some of our honest thoughts.

It’s very hectic down here, isn’t it?
And what we think of this top tourist destination. Hi, we’re Charlotte and Cory, a married couple traveling the world together. So, if you crave adventure, love a good travel guide, and need a weekly dose of wanderlust, then welcome aboard. We’re currently road tripping Italy, visiting Rome and Pompei before reaching the world-famous Amalfi Coast. For this trip, we based ourselves in the town of Fiorore, where we were greeted at our accommodation by a wonderful owner who gave us a true Italian welcome. Woohoo! Good. Now, let’s head out and discover what this coastline is all about. And stick around because there are a few surprises along the way. Welcome to Amalfi, the namesake of this beautiful coast. A very, very popular location. Of course, we’re here in coming up to the late afternoon and it is still bustling. There are loads of ferries. People are getting on and off. It’s not a very large area.
It’s quite small and because of that, it’s quite densely packed. We managed to get a park. It’s like €7 an hour.

We’ve just parked up at the harbor car park down here in Amalfi. And there is actually a secret little beach down here. It looks so beautiful. And uh there’s no one here. There’s a couple of people.
Ooh, the water is so clear.
Well, that didn’t take long, Charlotte.
No, it did not take long. 30 seconds in Maui Coast and I finally buddy.
You have to give it to the Italians.
There’s such little land space here, but they have absolutely made the most of it. These roads and these buildings are just teetering on the cliff edge.
It’s crazy what they’ve been able to do.
We’re in the Maui town part now looking away from the coast and it is stunning.
Look at this church. As you can see, it doesn’t get any quieter. It is just busier here. Everyone’s eating, going around, taking photos. People have those amazing sorbets in like lemons, which I think I would like to taste soon. Wow, this place is absolutely beautiful. But jeez, it’s busy. But you can find these little pockets if you go and explore the little lane ways.
We have come to Louisa, a panini place.

Somebody was outside and they said these are really good sandwiches. So, we were influenced by them and came in and nice and warm and we’re so hungry. Let’s get tuck in.
That looks like a damn good sandwich.
That looks like a good start.
I knew you were going to stop there.
I don’t really like shopping that much, but if I see something, then I go, “Ooh, swimming.” Oh my. That’s a life, isn’t it? We have taken about 100 photos just of this small road coming up the hill with the afternoon light. It’s gorgeous.

Everyone’s just stopping and turning and taking photos. Memory card’s very full by now. I said this to Charlotte before, but since arriving in the Amalfi Coast only a few hours ago, I really feel like I’m on holiday now. Not a feeling that I really had when we were in Rome or uh even Pompei and climbing Vesuvius. And Maui Coast has a special energy about it that just relaxes you. Maybe it’s the coast, maybe it’s the scenic drives.

Every corner that you go around is just like a picture. Yeah, I just feel like I’m on holiday here. It just that just does that to you here. It’s just beautiful.
There’s one of your boats.
Yeah. Boat’s coming to pick me up. See you.
Oh my god, there’s boats everywhere.
Shaz, the sun is about to set behind the beautiful Amalfi coastline. And we are ending our day here with some ice cream and some candied chocolate, some lemon and orange pieces of dark chocolate.
Okay, I’m trying something different now which I haven’t tried before. Orange skin dipped in chocolate.

I have tried gelato before many times.
It’s like a Jeffer. And in New Zealand we have Jeffers.
Yeah, that’s like a Jeffa cake.

Yeah, Jeffy cake’s not from New Zealand. How dare you? That’s Terry’s chocolate coma.
They’re English. What a beautiful way to end the day in a Maui.
Aside from its famous coastal towns, the Amalfi Coast is also home to one of Italy’s most iconic hikes, the Path of the Gods. Winding high above the sea, it offers breathtaking views at every turn. But what we found along the way made this trail even more unforgettable.
Legend says that this hike was created by the gods themselves. It is absolutely stunning. It takes around 3 hours. Oh, we can’t wait. Let’s get trekking.
Already it’s scenic. We can see some beautiful mountains. And I think we’re starting near the top of the hike. So, it should be fairly downhill for us all the way down to Positano.
I love all these signs. It’s in Italian and then English saying welcome to Path of the Gods all the way at the start of the trail. It’s such like a nice intro to the trek.
Look at these scenes.

This is supposed to take us 3 hours. It will take us much longer because one, we’re vlogging and two, we stop every few minutes for photos. It is so beautiful. I reckon it’s going to take us 5 hours. We’re taking bets long time.
This is incredible.
Woo.

It does look like I’m on the edge of the world, doesn’t it? [laughter] Absolutely incredible. I think I can see the church down there, which I can see from our bedroom window, but the views just keep getting better and better.

We’re just edging our way closer to, I guess, the Coast Positano. The upcoming path looks a little scary for somebody who has a little fear of heights. This is definitely though on a cliff edge. Yeah, it’s quite extreme, isn’t it? The path’s not like super skinny, so you got to balance. I think I’ll be okay.
So, this is Positano. We can see it now.
Our destination.

How cool is this little grotto refreshment point?
Well, it’s a bit of a trick to get down to this little grotto, but it’s well worth a little pit stop, I think, if you’re walking path of the gods. Once you get down here, it is so peaceful and so picturesque.
I don’t know how people do this in the height of summer.
Oh man, my legs are shaking.
They’re shaking. They’re going to be screaming tonight. Those knees.
Yeah. Tomorrow, I don’t think we’re doing much walking.
Joint cream.
We’re getting old.
Oh my gosh. Oh, we’re nearly there though. We are so much closer now to sea level.
Oh my god. Hi, baby. This is the best day of my life.
I think it’s chosen you.
It’s okay. I choose them, too.
These houses up here are so beautiful as well with all the flowers and the garden pottery and cats. It’s just it’s a lot for the senses to take in. How beautiful it must be to live here.
When you first come into Positano, it’s very busy. There’s this one strip which is like a one-way road and there’s a lot of restaurants and little bars here with sim drinks and cocktails and things. Limoncello with the iconic Positano view. Now we’re going to walk further into town. See if we can find something to eat cuz we’re starving. And uh hopefully it’s not as busy as it has been along this strip.
>> This place is insane. Look at the clifftops here. that they’ve just built all up and around it. It’s so it’s such an interesting place. Uh a lot of people come for holidays here and I can see why it’s just so inspiring, I guess. Just so unique.
Look out to the coast here.
I can see why this place is really attractive to come. It’s just very expensive.
There are some really beautiful restaurants to eat at. We have gone cheap and cheerful in Positano. We’ve gone for a pizza and pasta at a little side like takeaway stand. Very nice and easy. Relatively cheap for the area and uh tasty food.
No more stairs.
Really?
I don’t think so.
The last of the stairs. Who knows? I was like jelly tomorrow. There are rules in Positano. No drinking or eating as you walk around. Tuk tuk. Go and pay lots of money in the restaurant.
That’s what it’s all about.
Well, coming down to the beach front of Positano. I think it’s safe to say that I’m pretty happy we’re staying in Fedor, which is like one of these kinds of like hillside towns a bit further back from these famous ones in Amalfi and Positano.
It’s very hectic down here, isn’t it?
It is really hectic and you if you do decide to stay particularly here in Positano, you kind of lose all of the views. So, if you’re staying elsewhere on the coast, you can also get the views.
We are high up on Aquitanian which means that we get incredible views but it is a little bit trickier to get to places but I love the peace and quiet [laughter] like I wouldn’t want to stay in Positano but if you want the hustle and bustle then this is for you. Depends what you like.
One of the main transport options around the Maui coast is actually by sea. You can get a ferry to the main port. So, we are currently in Positano and we’re going to go over to Amalfi so we can get a bus back to our car from the hike that we did. It’s a one-way hike, so it’s hard to get home, but we thought this was a great opportunity for us to actually experience what it’s like to get a ferry around Amalfi Coast and show you guys what it’s like. This cost €10 per person and it’s 25 minutes from Positano to Amalfi.
We’re hoping for some amazing views along the way.
Yes, we thought this would be a great opportunity as well to see what the views would be like from the Mediterranean Sea.
How exciting.
I would love to jump in right now as well. Goodbye.
This is a really magical way to make our way back to the hotel we’re staying at.
Perfect afternoon light. We can see all the places where we’ve just hiked and the beautiful sunset colors on the cliffs. You can see all the shadows.
It’s really amazing. Definitely recommend getting on the water here in Amalfi.
Yeah, definitely try a ferry.
It’s only a tenner. That’s pretty cheap, isn’t it? It >> is. Imagine if this was just like a proper like 25minut cruise. It’ be like $125.
That’s true.
Trying to figure out the bus service down in a Maui. There is a man uh in a high viz vest, a big bright yellow vest.
just bought two tickets to go to Gondola where our car is and he gives us couple of tickets and tells us where to go and line up. We’ve got about half an hour to wait.
>How was that bus journey?
Oh my god, that was the scariest bus ride I’ve ever experienced. I was sat on the floor in the stairwell with a completely packed-out bus just it’s safer road rules in Southeast Asia.
I promise you >> that was an experience. Wow. They go so fast around those corners.

And we got off and everybody was like oh my god looking at each other like wo like nervous giggling the whole way >> and they don’t even slow down. They just honk on the horn and just go flying around the corners. First and last time I’ll go on a bus around the Amalfi coast. If you want to experience it, go for it. But I’d not really recommend [laughter] it if you like it. If you like living, we have taken a day trip out of Amalfi Coast and we are in Sorrento. Now, I know technically this is not the Amalfi Coast, but it’s close enough that if like us, we’re experiencing bad weather on the coast, it’s just an hour or so drive to get here. is great for a day out and to experience something new. The atmosphere and the vibe is completely different to the Amalfi Coast. This is a really historic and interesting city and it offers beautiful views of the coastline of Vesuvius. It’s a great place to add on if you have a few days spare or you want to do something to add on to your Amalfi Coast itinerary that’s something different.
We are in Radical Insto. Really cool. I think it’s very Instagram able cafe by all of the roses around. But Crystal is a city. They actually have a lot more options here for more modern eating out options. Like in the Amalfi Coast, it’s very much the kind of old-style bistro, but here are the more city vibes. You’ve got the kind of more hip cafes. It’s quite cute, isn’t it? I didn’t really know what to expect uh here in Sorrento. hadn’t done much research before other than I wanted to go and it seemed really charming. The buildings are really beautiful. It feels like a proper historical city to wander around. A this is so beautiful.
We just spent about 30 minutes in that gallery. We couldn’t film in there, but it’s like fine art prints and the images are gorgeous. I really want to buy one, but we don’t actually have a house, so [laughter] we can’t hang it up anywhere.
This place is actually it used to be a monastery. Um, but this is where the photographer took some of his great photography. It’s particularly there’s one photo of like nuns on the swing. It’s on the rooftop here. So, he’s got a little gallery here as well. But this courtyard is so beautiful.
Yeah. And also feels like you’re in a fantasy novel. And they’re getting ready for a wedding. So, they do civil weddings here. And wow, what a beautiful spot for a wedding.
Mount Sorrento does offer an amazing view of Mount Vesuvius right over there, which we were climbing not long ago. Go check out that vlog. We’ll put it in the description below. But absolutely gorgeous. And as you can see, there is a cruise ship docked here. So, this is a very popular cruise stop along the Mediterranean coast.
Now, because it’s a bigger city and because the cruise ships do dock here, you get a lot of the tenders coming and bringing all the punters off the cruise ships here, it can get very busy. I think this is like the main square here in Sorrento. And you can just see so many groups of people walking with a guide as they go from place to place, point of interest around Sorrento.
That’s a lemon.
You’re as big as my head. I kept walking past all the gelato shops and I just couldn’t resist. Italians love their sweets and so I’ve gone for a gelato.
Now, we’ve gone for one of the ones which is inside the stainless-steel containers because apparently those ones don’t have as much preservatives and artificial things. It’s like the real authentic gelato. So, we’ve gone for one of those.
It looks stickier. Delio.
Wow. Nice view of Sorrento from here.
Ooh la la. From here, you can really see how Sorrento lies on top of the cliffs.
And it actually looks far more impressive from here with the mountains behind and the clouds. That looks really cool. People are swimming.
So, we’re at the peninsula now, the point where we can get right up to the top of the rock and look all the way back to Sorrento. Amazing views out to Vesuvius again. And these are actually Roman ruins. Um, so this was an established site uh from Roman times. You can see the Roman handiwork there and the grass. You can see the rocks and stuff and all around this headland. There’s lots of it.
We are ending our time here in Sorrento with this beautiful view and the sun has come out for us. Thank you so much for watching.
