Villa Impero – Anacapri – Capri
5+2 Bedrooms en-suite – Pool
Once the home of the Barons Monti Della Corte, Villa Impero on the Island of Capri is one of the few remaining Caprian Villas of the early 19th Century. A minute’s walk from the main square in Anacapri, the villa – all white and very elegantly set in a terraced garden with a peacock-blue pool – has only recently been transformed into a small boutique hotel, also available for private rental. Refurbished by a chic antiquarian-art dealer-owner, she often works as consultant for exhibitions and reviews of artwork from the period, organized both in Italy and abroad. She actively collaborates with architects and interior designers of international fame on restoration projects, offering her advice and suggestions and compiling accurate research studies on requests.
Having been sympathetically restored, and retaining the best of its two hundred year old features, you might expect Villa Impero to be lacking some mod cons, but each of the five uniquely decorated suites, named to reflect the important antique pieces that furnish it, has satellite television, a CD/DVD player, high-speed internet access and according to the theme of the room one of the following; a Turkish bath, plunge pool, duplex shower or Jacuzzi bath.
The house is pretty much faultless. A 16th-century Turkoman fireplace dominates the dining room and an Indian fountain commissioned by a 19th-century maharaja. Other grand touches: inlaid mosaics, a fabulous art collection – including a Neapolitan sea battle painted by the 18th-century master Leonardo Coccorante.
The Garden Suite, adjacent to the pool area, is dominated by an 18th-century sarcophagus bath, albeit in an almost minimalist bedroom. The Suite also encompasses an oversized marble bathroom with sky-lit plunge pool, kitchenette, two walk-in closets, dressing area and secluded private patio. The sanctuary of the villa, hidden behind gates and beyond extensive gardens, is a world apart from the lively town and is an ideal place to combine a relaxing holiday with a break away doing the things that you enjoy most. With the proximity of museums and galleries to Villa Impero, there is no shortage of interesting activities. However if you just want to sit by the pool and relax, surrounded by trees and flowers, then this too is a tempting option. Light snacks are available during the day and meals are prepared on request using fresh produce and traditional Mediterranean recipes. The guest-to-staff ratio is two to one. There are five en-suite bedrooms in the villa with two additional en-suite bedrooms just steps away from the main house. All bedrooms are uniquely named and decorated according to a theme stemming from each rooms particular period antiques and art collection. The five en-suite rooms in the main villa are: the Artist’s Room, the Louis XVI Room, the Voyager’s Room, the Venetian Room and the Collector’s Room. The two newly constructed en-suite rooms adjacent to the pool area are the Pool Room and the Empire Room, if requested by the client these two rooms can be combined to form the “Garden Suite”.
Descriptions of each of the rooms are as follows:
The Artist’s Room Inspired by a fabulous Marchigana Era bookcase . The Artist’s Room has been delightfully frescoed by renowned artist Enrica Capone. A splendid bathroom with shower in white marble mosaic and two antique marble basins dating back to the 18th century complete the furnishings. The Artist’s Room can be converted from twin beds to a single queen-size bed.
The Louis XVI Room An exquisite Louis XVI boiserie panels an entire wall and inspires the name of this sumptuous room featuring a queen-size bed with baldachin. The large sunken bathroom contains a roman bath with shower. There is also a charming terrace overlooking the delicately perfumed “Cetrella” garden. Queen-size bed.
The Voyager Room Rare artefacts and souvenirs brought back from voyages to the Orient and Latin America create an exotic atmosphere in this splendid room. From the large four-poster bed, draped in beautiful light coloured fabrics, one can look out towards the spacious terrace with sea view. Queen-size bed.
The Venetian Room The highlight of this impressive room is a glorious 18th century Venetian bookcase, that frames the entrance to the boudoir. Enhancing the Venetian Room’s flower decked terrace is an exquisite marble topped table, just perfect for breakfast to be served upon. Finally, there is a Turkish steam room with shower in the bathroom. Queen-size bed.
The Collector’s Room Once the master bedroom of the villa, the Collector’s Room still houses an incredible collection of Neapolitan School paintings dating back to the 17th century. This splendid collection forms the backdrop to the rich fabrics which drape the king-size bed. There is an over-sized bathroom with Jacuzzi and from the spacious terrace over the garden there is a sea view. The over-sized King bed may be converted to two double beds.
The Pool Room Adjacent to the pool area, the newly renovated Pool Room comprises a large, airy and sunlit bedroom with modern furnishings: a queen-size bed, modular sitting area with plasma screen TV and surround sound. The luxurious bathroom features a sky-lit roman bath with shower. From the Pool Rooms’ small patio. Queen-size bed can e converted o two twin beds.
The Empire Room Adjacent to the pool area, the newly renovated Empire Room, features a large marble Empire tub next to the queen-size platform bed of this sunlit room. There is a large dressing area with enclosed stone shower and walk-in closet. Beyond the Empire Room’s Art Deco sitting area there is a small patio with spiral staircase leading to a private sundeck with sea view. King-size bed.
Wedding – Villa Impero with it’s tiered gardens, including, it’s secret garden, is a perfect venue for weddings. As opposed to other hotels on Capri where weddings take place amidst the hustle and bustle of daily activities, weddings take place at Villa Impero in seclusion. The entire villa becomes the dramatic setting for a chic and elegant event, customized to the bride and grooms every whim. The Villa’s gardens and gazebo can accommodate up to 60 guests for a cocktail reception and up to 45 guests for a sit down banquet. There are two preset menus, for both cocktail receptions and sit down banquets, to choose from. The Villa’s chef will also be happy to work with clients on customized menus.
